Red hair often gets the wrong type of attention. Its rarity often means that many redheads get singled out and are called names like “carrot-top” or Duracell, day after day.

When I studied art history I discovered that many painters have shown a fascination with red hair. The Early Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli’s famous painting The Birth of Venus portrays the mythological goddess Venus as a redhead just like me. I found other painters notable for their redheads including the Pre-Raphaelites, Edmund Leighton, Modigliani and Gustav Klimt.

Thank God there are many redhead fetishists and appreciation groups on the web who are loud and active in their praise of this misunderstood and under-appreciated attribute.
