The Best Coworking Space in Barcelona

Coworking has changed my life.

As a professional sex toy tester, it is safe to say that I probably have the best job in the world. But, even so, it is not absolutely perfect. The testing part of the job, although fun, must be undertaken at home and for obvious reasons. And when I am writing about the experience after the fact, it can be a very lonely affair indeed.

Writing in cafes is great and I still do that sometimes. I enjoy having either a green tea or a black coffee. I just love watching life happening around me while I type away. A cafe, as a working environment, can be quite inspiring and I can get things done very quickly. But I still miss the social interaction. Do not get me wrong. I absolutely do not miss working in an office. I never get nostalgic for arguments about air con, whispers by the photocopying machine, the backstabbing or the office gossip.

It became obvious that I needed to take action when it came to my professional and social life. So, I joined a couple of freelancer groups on Meetup.com. It was through them that I was able to try out several coworking spaces in Barcelona. And, more importantly, I was able to meet other creative people and online entrepreneurs who are doing fascinating things with an internationalist mindset. I have made some great contacts and friends, we all work independently and we are not colleagues. It might look like an office, but there is no boss and I can come and go as I please.

After sampling a variety of coworking spaces in Barcelona, I decided to settle on Depot Lab.

There were several reasons for this:

  • Location – next to Calle Venus (it must be a sign). It is still a great place to be even if you are not called Venus. It is next to Barrio de Gracia, Paseo de Gracia and Diagonal.
  • Work/life balance – I can connect with like-minded people and still be highly productive at the same time.
  • Events – From networking events to advice about how to do your tax returns, there is always plenty going on. These events are usually held in the evening and are open to everyone, not just Depot Labbers.
  • But, what really sells Depot Lab to me are the people that generate its motivating ambiance. They are friendly, inspiring, forward-thinking and wonderfully international.
